I Believe in Learning from the Past to Help the Future

I believe that people should look to the past to help them in their future. I doesn't matter if it is the person’s own past they look at, or someone else’s, they can learn. Many people don’t like to go back and look at history because it’s the past; something that has already happened that you can’t go back and change. I think history is something that should be looked at to prevent mistakes from happening in the future. For example, parents often tell their kids about all the crazy and/or stupid things they did in the past, in hopes their child won’t repeat the same thing they did.

Sometimes looking back into the past can be scary. A reminder of bad times, pain, and hurt. The past can also be happy and joyous, filled with wonderful memories. Both aspects of the past can offer knowledge to help with the present and future. A sad past can help one stay clear of what ever situation that someone may run into that is like their past. A happy past can help one know what to look for or what to expect when they come upon a situation on their present or future.

The picture I included in this blog post is a picture of a Sankofa. The Sankofa is a symbol from West Africa meaning learn from the past. The Sankofa is a popular tattoo

that many get to give them a reminder to look to their past for every situation they come upon, as well as day to day life.
